Powerful Resources for Technology

With a thriving economy and a variety of targeted programs, Indianapolis can provide many resources and incentives for the clean technology industry.


IPL

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. (IPL) established a pilot Rate REP (Renewable Energy Production) for wind, solar or biomass renewable energy production effective March 2010. The REP rate program, commonly called a "feed-in tariff," expects to install more than 100MW of renewable energy production in Indianapolis.

Energy Systems Network (ESN)

A partnership of private firms, research institutions and public agencies, ESN is focused on bringing new energy technologies to market by leveraging Indiana’s strong manufacturing sector, R&D capabilities and advanced energy systems. Key programs include:

  • Hoosier Heavy Hybrid: Partnership to develop a fully integrated hybrid power train for trucks
  • Project Plug-In: Commercial scale demonstration of plug-in hybrid and smart-grid technology
  • Microgreen: Project to develop integrated power storage solutions

SustainIndy

Created by Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, this program focuses on reducing the environmental impact of city operations and working with private partners to ensure that Indy moves towards being a more sustainable city.

The Senator Richard Lugar Center for Renewable Energy at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI)

With an international reputation in renewable energy research, the center is developing a core expertise in fuel cell technology and in biofuel production.
